Butterfly Orchid and Its Origins
Olof Swartz was the orchid enthusiast who probably named each one of them somewhere in 1800. This beautiful butterfly orchid resembles a butterfly hence the name and it comes in colors such as yellow, red, white and pink with light spots of red with approximately 300 different sub species.
They are found mostly in South America and Asia in its natural form, however today they can be cultivated in green houses around the world with a lot of care and determination.

The butterfly orchid requires warm temperatures and high levels of humidity; to ensure these conditions one must keep it mostly at room temperature with sunlight, even if it is not required to place it in direct sunlight.
Some of the species brought out of their natural environment will need special care, which the specialist at the flower store will indicate or it will receive written direction on a little note in the flowerpot when purchased. Water the butterfly orchid once every second day.
